Luke 12:22, 33-34
Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear…. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
What are Sherpa Family Trips?
A Sherpa is a native of the Himalayas known for providing guidance, support and aid to those wishing to explore the treacherous mountains. Just as a Sherpa leads novices through the glories of the Himalayas, so we hope to guide participants to a place where they can see the Kingdom of God on Earth. Sherpa Family Trips are an attempt to be faithful to God’s command to seek His Kingdom and to store up treasure in Heaven.
We invite you to see and experience God’s reign throughout the world.
Why Sherpa Family Trips?
Sherpa Family Trips are unique from many short-term mission trips in three ways. First, they are family trips. Participating in a trip as a family affirms and strengthens family ties by allowing you to experience new situations and places together. Participating in an international trip orients families to thinking about the gospel globally and shifts the focus of participants from self to others. Sherpa trips are designed to take your family out of a materialistic, self-consumed culture and into a foreign place where you see and experience God’s universal rule.
Secondly, the primary goal of Sherpa trips is to SEE – to see what life is like for others, to see your own hearts, and to see the Kingdom. Sherpa trips are distinct from project oriented short-term trips because they are designed for your family to experience life with others, thus enabling you to see the world through their eyes and to gain a more universal and eternal perspective.
Finally, Sherpa Family Trips are unique in that they are only the beginning of what we hope is a life-long process of learning to love God more and through that to love others more. Jesus exemplified a pattern of love to us: He first saw people; He saw their pain, their need, or their faith. He then had compassion on those He saw. Finally, He acted on His compassion by healing, encouraging, challenging, or rebuking. We invite you to see the Kingdom of God by participating in a Sherpa Family Trip and we pray that what you see will develop compassion resulting in active love.
